geotechnical core drilling. The drilling program
is being undertaken to provide geotechnical data
for the foundation of a proposed dam. The program
will consist of drilling 8 vertical drillholes
through overburden, bedrock and permafrost. The
proposed drillhole locations. Drill pads and
access ways to the site will be prepared by the
sites care and maintenance staff. Drill core will
be collected and boxed, permeability tests will
be conducted and a string of thermistors
(provided by owner) will be installed. All
drilling is to be conducted with a 1.5 M core
barrel using a triple tube drilling system in
order to minimize damage to the core. All
drillholes will be fully grouted prior to moving
off site. Drillholes with instrumentation will be
equipped with a cemented collar and a lockable
steel box of approximate dimensions (H:W = 1 M
x :0.5 M) with a metal pipe to prevent damage
from wildlife.
