Mining & Mine Reclamation
Mining is the excavation of a hole in the ground for the purpose of extracting minerals. Mine reclamation is the re-claiming of the mine area or restoration of the area which has been mined. Mining can cause substantial environmental damage and many mines are abandoned once the minerals have been extracted and it is up to a government agency to undo the damage caused by the mining operation. Mine reclamation can include filling the mine, sealing entrances, stopping groundwater from flowing into the mine and restoring the environmental damage caused by mining.
