Microtunneling

Microtunneling is a highly sophisticated and accurate form of pipejacking using a steerable, laser-guided mechanical cutting shield to bore a tunnel from 10" to 96" in diameter for installing underground pipelines, ducts and culverts. Hydraulic jacks are used to push pipe through the ground behind the shield while at the same time excavation is taking place within the shield. The tunnel is bored under existing utilities and obstructions, including small rivers, so there is minimal surface disruption. Diameters larger than 120" is considered to be tunneling instead of microtunneling.
