Surveying is the measurement of a location's precise geographical location in relation to established markers and the elevation. Work sites are frequently surveyed as is land before or after a purchase is made. Existing utilities are surveyed and their location entered into a computer as part of a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) system. The most modern survey method involves the use of GPS (Global Positioning Satellites) and supplemental directional radio signals to pinpoint locations.
